Verteillac

14 minute drive

The Gite is ideally located within a short drive to this vibrant, scenic village with a boulangerie, boucherie, bank, cafe's, hardware store, Post Office and also hosts a brocante on the first Sunday of the month.

 

Riberac

20 minute drive

Where you can pick up your supplies of fresh bread, enjoy a coffee, glass of wine, lunch, or browse the local markets. Riberac also has a good choice of supermarkets and fresh produce.

 

Aubeterre-Sur-Dronne

18 minute drive

One of France’s most beautiful villages is just a short drive away with its meandering river and beach, beautiful architecture, shops, restaurants and cafés. This beautiful village is poised on a steep hill above the Dronne river with its famous monolithic church of Saint Jean that is definitely worth a visit.

 

Brantome

36 minute drive

Known locally as the ‘The Venice of Perigord.’ The river Dronne flows through the centre of the town passing the Benedictine Abbey that sits in the woodland cliffs. The original Abbey was destroyed by the Vikings but was rebuilt in the 10th Century. The town boasts some good shops, cafe's and restaurants that include Michelin starred.

 

La Rochelle

2 hour drive

Capital of the Charente-Maritime department. It has been a centre for fishing and trade since the 12th Century with its Vieux port (old harbour) and Marina, the old town has half-timbered medieval houses and Renaissance architecture. Enjoy the delightful bars and restaurants that surround the Marina or visit the Aquarium or WW2 Bunker.

 

Cognac

65 minute drive

Cognac is situated in the Charente department and has an extensive town centre and old town with cobbled streets. Cognac is world famous for its brandy distribution, visit one of the distilleries; Hennessy, Courvoisier or Remy Martin or stroll along the banks of the Charente river. Cognac is a vibrant town that attracts many visitors each year.

 

Bourdeilles

35 minute drive

The picturesque village of Bourdeilles sits peacefully on the Dronne river near Brantome. Visit the medieval fortress and chateau, the chateau dominates the village with its two distinct castles an older castle and one more recent renaissance castle.​

 

Angouleme

40 minute drive

The capital of the Charente with its meandering river and main line railway station with connections to Paris, Lille, La Rochelle, Nice, Limoges and Bordeaux. The city is full of art and history.

 

Perigueux

The capital of the Dordogne is also worth a visit with its medieval and roman towns, imposing Cathedral that dominates the skyline with its domes and turrets and was classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1998. The town is full of art and history.

 

Oradour-sur-Glane

1 hour and 35 minutes drive

A village set in time following the massacre of 642 inhabitants on the 10th June 1944 during WW2, now a permanent memorial and museum.

Royan

Approximately 2 hours drive

Located in the Charente-Maritime, Royan is an historic seaside resort that has five sandy beaches protected from the wind between the Gironde Estuary and Atlantic Ocean. Royan is popular with tourists throughout the season and was awarded ‘city of art and history in 2010.
